Inventor Colin Furze is back at it again, and this time, he’s created a Steampunk-style thermite launcher that will burn anything in its path, literally. For those who aren’t familiar with the substance, Thermite is basically a pyrotechnic composition of metal powder fuel and metal oxide. When ignited by heat, thermite undergoes an exothermic reduction-oxidation (redox) reaction. Most varieties are not explosive but can create brief bursts of high temperature in a small area. “Colin had the bright idea to build a contraption to fire shells of this extremely hot stuff. He pulls the trigger on this thing while aiming it at cans of gas, piles of fireworks, and burns holes through wheelbarrows,” reports Hi Consumption.
