Here’s an up-close look at Honda Performance Development’s Driver-in-the-Loop (DIL) simulator, something that all Honda drivers and teams use. This Indianapolis-based simulator replicates on-track situations like changing track / ambient temperatures, tire grip and wind speed/direction.
Drivers and teams can also use the DIL simulator to test chassis setups, aerodynamics, engine maps, as well as development paths in a cost-effective environment. When the driver enters the simulator, they are fully immersed, complete with racing gloves / boots and seeing a laser-scanned, 180-degree image of the circuit on the console.
- Next Level Racing Hubs allow for quick adjustments and solid durability
- Adjustable wheel, gear shifter and pedal positions and angle
- Gear Shifter support included and can be installed on left or right side
For me this year, as a rookie in INDYCAR, having the Honda Simulator has been hugely important. It’s helped me to learn the tracks, setup the car and understand what it takes to go fast – and to get there quickly! The days we’ve had on the simulator have been quite valuable for us,” said Romain Grosjean, IndyCar Driver for Juncos Hollinger Racing.
