Honor Magic 8 Pro Smartphone Launch
Honor has finally brought its new flagship, the Magic 8 Pro, to the UK market, and it’s a beast. Nighttime photography receives a significant update, aided by some genuinely remarkable hardware and an emphasis on artificial intelligence, which is expected to make detailed edits much easier.

First and foremost, the Magic 8 Pro is comfortable to hold. It’s slightly smaller than its predecessors, with a 6.71-inch screen that makes it simpler to hold. It weighs 219 grams and has gently curved edges, making it quite comfortable to use for extended periods of time. It comes in Sunrise Gold, Sky Cyan, and Black, with a sleek glass front as well as a reinforced rear that will keep it going even if exposed to dust or water. To top it all off, they’ve added a new button on the side; double touch it to rapidly activate the camera, or hold it down to access the AI functions you require.

So you turn on the screen, and the LTPO OLED panel really delivers with its 1256 x 2808 resolution and variable refresh rate ranging from 1 to 120Hz. Peak brightness is 6,000 nits, which is ideal for taking beautiful pictures even in bright light. You also get features like 4320Hz PWM dimming and circadian rhythm adjustments, which will keep your eyes from tiring after long periods of use. Of course, Dolby Vision is supported, so all of your videos and photographs will look great.

Under the hood, it’s all thanks to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, which is essentially a powerhouse for productivity and demanding gaming. It comes with up to 16GB of RAM and UFS 4.1 storage, so multitasking is no problem. And the AI-driven upscaling is exactly what you need for seamless gameplay, boosting frame rates to a nice 120fps in supported titles at higher resolution.

The battery life is excellent, with a 6,270mAh silicon-carbon cell in the UK edition that may easily last a full day of intense use, such as streaming and shooting. When you do require a recharge, charging speeds are fairly quick at 100W wired or 80W wireless.

Now, let us talk about the cameras. They’re the true stars of the show here, and with good cause. The rear camera has a 200 megapixel periscope telephoto lens, a 1/1.4 inch sensor, an f/2.6 aperture, and optical stabilisation. What is the best part? It’s been engineered to operate best in low-light situations, allowing you to snap stunning photographs from a distance with no tripod in sight. Add in the AI adaptive stabilization, which helps avoid all that shaky-handled stuff, and you’ve got some really amazing low-light photos. A 50 megapixel main camera with a 1/1.3 inch sensor and f/1.6 aperture handles ordinary images, while a 50 megapixel ultrawide is used for bigger scenes or close-up macros. The front-facing 50 megapixel selfie camera is also equipped with a depth sensor for safe face unlock.

Software enhancements help push these lenses to their limits, with Magic Colour analyzing millions of tones to deliver accurate colors, while post-shot tools like the AI Eraser do a great job of removing any unwanted objects, the AI Outpainting expands portraits to give them a more dramatic look and feel, and the AI Cutout does a brilliant job of isolating subjects so that they really pop.

Onboard the phone is a fast and efficient on-device AI system that completes numerous jobs quickly, and if you have a more difficult need that requires extra power, you can always rely on cloud support from Google’s Gemini system. Additional security procedures are in place to detect any deepfakes that may be present in calls or media.

Though it costs a fairly steep £1,099 ($1,477) in the UK, the Magic 8 Pro is now available from all major carriers and retailers, competing with some of the market’s top Android flagships. If first impressions are anything to go by, this one lives up to its claims of low-light prowess, as the hardware and software genuinely work together to make taking difficult shots much easier.
