You’ve seen IHMC’s Nadia, now check out Carnegie Mellon University’s humanoid robot donning gear from Cristiano Ronaldo, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James and more. The project is called ASAP (Aligning Simulation and Real-World Physics for Learning Agile Humanoid Whole-Body Skills), a two-stage framework designed to tackle the dynamics mismatch and enable agile humanoid whole-body skills.
The first stage has researchers pre-training motion tracking policies in simulation using retargeted human motion data. In the second stage, these policies are deployed in the real world and collect actual data to train a delta (residual) action model that compensates for the dynamics mismatch. Next, the ASAP model fine-tunes pre-trained policies with the delta action model integrated into the simulator to align effectively with real-world dynamics.

There is something about a robot dressed in Ronaldo outfit. It looks more human and playful. Chappie vibe. I love it,” said one commenter.
