Hyundai Pony Coupe Concept Reveal
The recreated Hyundai Pony Coupe Concept was revealed in Lake Como nearly 50-years after the original made its debut at the 1974 Turin Motor Show. It was rebuilt by the original designer, Giorgetto Giugiaro, to the exact specifications and original materials, complete with the origami-like exterior.

Aesthetically, its geometric lines, sleek roofline, pure unadorned surfaces, dynamic proportions and a uniquely shaped B pillar, all come together to form its iconic wedge-shaped design. Step inside, and you’ll find a minimalist design that highlights a driver-centered floating architecture with a single spoke steering wheel as well as two-toned slimline bucket seats. It’s powered by a 1.2L inline-4 engine making 82hp, mated to a manual transmission that sends power to the rear wheels.

Despite the poor industrial environment in the 1970s, my grandfather and Hyundai’s Founding Chairman Ju-young Chung poured his heart and soul into rebuilding Korea’s economy and improving the lives of its people after the devastating Korean War. He finally realized his vision of making Korea a country capable of developing its own vehicles with perfection. I express my sincere gratitude to everyone from both Italy and Korea who played a critical role in the success of Pony,” said Euisun Chung, Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group.
