You won’t need to visit the ice planet Hoth for a stay in the world’s only permanent ice hotel, just Sweden. Called “Icehotel 365”, it’s located approximately 125-miles north of the Arctic Circle in Jukkasjarvi, spans 2,100-square-feet, houses 20 suites, a bar, and even an art gallery. Power comes the way of solar panels harvested during the summer months, and the interior stays a comfortable 23° Fahrenheit year round to ensure the hotel remains cold throughout the summer. “What’s fascinating is that the sun which melted the art in the past, is essential for making the year-round art experience possible. The art in the permanent part of Icehotel will also change during the year and melt back into Torne River again. The nature and environment are not only a huge source for inspiration for icehotel, but also a necessity to create the hotel year after year. Previously we said goodbye to our guests come spring, but thanks to help from the sun we now can invite them year-round,” said Yngve Bergqvist, founder and initiator of the project.
