IKEA x SPACE10 Couch in an Envelope
While paragliding on a couch is more thrilling, the AI-designed IKEA x SPACE10 ‘Couch in an Envelope’ is a much more interesting concept. This innovative furniture piece weighs 10kg, yet can be folded down into an envelope for easy transportation.

The couch itself boasts an aluminum frame, making it both lightweight and eco-friendly. The fabrics found on the body and pillows of the couch are made from cellulose and mycelium foam, both of which are biodegradable. What really sets it apart from other folding couches are its adjustable wings that can be lifted or lowered depending on the space. Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on if this concept will go into production.

This project began as a way to challenge problematic design archetypes. The couch, as we know it today, is a complicated and high-maintenance piece of furniture, to find and to move. However beloved it is, the couch is often a strain on people owing to its weight, on the planet due to its design intricacies, and a burden on the friends who generously help us to move. The project is an agenda for change, inspiring the design community to move further towards a couch that is better for us – and the planet,” said Georgina McDonald, Creative & Partnerships, SPACE10.
