Apple has been using elegant metal finishes on its watches for years, but one designer has gone back in time and is pulling inspiration from the iMac G3 from 1998. Yes, you guessed it: Saffy Creatives, the same outfit that created this unofficial design as a complete re-make of the Apple Watch, has taken that famous vibrant vibe and incorporated it into a wearable that evokes memories.

The body is constructed of actual plastic rather than the normal metal seen in official Apple Watches, and it features the same semi-transparent material that made the first iMac G3 so eye-catching. Then there’s a separate clear plastic bezel, giving the whole thing hefty, classic lines that are a far cry from the ultra sleek look of today’s Apple Watches.

This design has gone all out in terms of color, with Bondi Blue, Strawberry, Lime, Tangerine, and Grape, all of which were famous colors used by Apple on their earlier all-in-one PCs. Each one has a two-tone look and feel, with the translucent coloured body paired off with a nice white bezel, and that digital crown has been given some extra love by being anodised in the same colour as the rest of the watch, while the side button and lugs all merge into the plastic body.

That’s right, the Apple logo, which is usually hidden on the back or on the crown, is moved up front on the bezel, directly below the screen, for everyone to see. The display, on the other hand, remains same from any prior Apple Watch, with curved glass for touch screen deliciousness and all of the fitness monitoring, notifications, and applications you’ve come to expect.

Bands follow the same pattern, with clear straps that simply slip onto the lugs, no metal clasps or connectors to get in the way and weigh you down. The end result is a watch that is colorful and fun, and it stands out on the wrist far more than a stainless steel watch could.
