A computer inside the machine updates the price of gold every 10 minutes to reflect fluctuations in the world market. It sells bars and coins in various sizes, including – currently – a special souvenir 2.5g bar with the London skyline engraved on its reverse. Shoppers can also pick up a 1g coin for about £40 or a 250g bar for £10,250.

2. Robotic Ice Cream Vending Machine
Borrowing the name from its maker Yaskawa, a major Japanese bank and a leading advertising agency, Yaskawa-kun makes and sells soft serve ice cream currently at Tokyo Summerland theme park. How it works: the order is placed through a touchscreen, which the robot proceeds to make while Yaskawa-kun’s theme song plays in the background. The city that popularized the fast food drive-thru has a new innovation: 24-hour medical marijuana vending machines. Patients suffering from chronic pain, loss of appetite and other ailments that marijuana is said to alleviate can get their pot with a dose of convenience at the Herbal Nutrition Center, where a large machine will dole out the drug around the clock.
