Former The Tonight Show host Jay Leno was fortunate enough to get behind the wheel of friend Tim Allen’s extremely rare Ford RS200 rally car. A total of 148 of these Group B homologation vehicles were delivered to customers and exclusive to Europe, which makes this pristine 1986 specimen even more valuable.
Power comes from a turbocharged 1.8L Ford-Cosworth ‘BDT’ inline-4 engine making 247 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission that sends power to all wheels, enabling it to hit 60 mph in 5 seconds, while topping out at 149 mph. This 2,601 pound vehicle achieves 17.5 mph on regular pump gas and can travel up to 485-miles before needing a refill of its 27.7 gallon capacity fuel tank. On a related note, did you know that the original bodywork tooling for the Ford RS200 was later acquired by Banham Conversions? That’s right, the company then used it to make a kit car version based on the Austin Maestro.
