Joby Aviation announced that its first eVTOL aircraft prototype has rolled off the production line and already has a special airworthiness FAA permit for testing. It’s expected to be the very first eVTOL aircraft delivered to a customer when it moves to Edwards Air Force Base in 2024.
Since 2019, Joby Aviation has flown its ptr-ptofuvyion eVTOL prototypes for more than 30,000 miles and full FAA certification is expected to happen in 2024. The five-seat S4 prototype boasts six propellers along its wings and V-tail, and has a 150-mile range when flown at speeds of over 200 mph. Commercial air taxi operations are slated to begin in 2025, but we don’t know how much one of these will cost just yet.
