Jesko Absolut, driven by Mat Watson, competed against the Regera, driven by Markus von Koenigsegg (who drove both cars for their record-setting runs), on a runway.
The Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut is powered by a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 running on E85 fuel, pumping out out 1,600 hp and 1,106 lb-ft torque. It’s rear-wheel drive with a 9-speed multi-clutch automatic transmission and weighs a svelte 3,064 lbs. Designed for top speed with a drag coefficient of 0.278 Cd, it’s the fastest Koenigsegg ever, holding the 0-400-0 km/h record at 27.83 seconds. Price tag? About £5 million (~$6.6 million).

As for the Koenigsegg Regera, it also has a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 but is aided by three electric motors, producing 1,500 hp and 1,475 lb-ft of torque. It’s rear-wheel drive with a single-speed torque converter gearbox and weighs 3,505 lbs. It previously held the 0-400-0 km/h record at 28.81 seconds. It’s slightly “cheaper” at £3 million (~$4 million).

We won’t spoil the results, but will say that the Jesko’s lighter weight and optimized aerodynamics gave it the edge, despite the Regera’s higher torque. Traction was most certainly also a factor, as the Jesko’s rear-wheel-drive setup still managed to hook up better.

As we mentioned previously, this was a world-first drag race for these two, as Koenigsegg had never officially raced them against each other before. The combined value of the cars was over $10 million, making it a spectacle of engineering and wealth.
