Flexible displays used on foldable smartphones are nothing new, but LG has an interesting take on the technology, according to a design patent filed in China on March 6, 2019 with the the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) database. A total of 18 sketches were included, and they appear to show a Z-folding device with dual displays, one of which is a flexible screen. Read more for the patent sketches and additional information.
What is a Z-fold device? Basically, the third display is a stand-alone unit and folds back onto the front surface of the smartphone, thus giving the handset a full front screen, while enabling one to unfold it into a device that has a screen three times as wide when required. No other specifications were mentioned, but we assume that it will sport a front-facing selfie camera and an in-display fingerprint reader.
