Lockheed Martin’s HULC is basically an untethered, battery-powered, hydraulic-actuated anthropomorphic exoskeleton capable of heavy upper-body lifting with minimal human exertion. The device is designed to transfer the weight from heavy loads to the ground through the robotic legs of the lower-body exoskeleton, taking the weight off of the operator, while an advanced micro-computer ensures that it moves in sync with the operator. Lockheed’s latest model enables the operator to adapt to the exoskeleton in less time, thanks to a ruggedized structure that allows for rapid, repeatable adjustments to the torso and thigh length, without special tools, along with improved control software to better track the user’s movements.
