Florida-based startup Lonestar Data Holdings Inc. aims to put the first data center on the Moon by late 2023, as they just closed a $5-million seed funding round. The company wants to take advantage of the $200 billion premium global data storage industry while addressing key environmental and growing biosphere concerns triggered by the increasing growth of data centers around the world.
Lonestar already has a second mission planned to send lightweight data center equipment to the Moon that will offer both a disaster recovery backup service as well as Edge processing for lunar missions. The first few deployments will consist of a server and a book-sized storage module, all powered by solar energy, with hardware provided by Skycorp.
