Volvo recently debuted the Mack MD Electric, the company’s first EV in the medium-duty segment of the trucking industry. Available in Class 6 (25,995 GWV) and Class 7 (33,000 GWV) ratings, both variants are equipped with a 150-kWh or 240-kWh Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt-Oxide lithium-ion battery pack with up 230 miles (three batteries) of range on a full charge.
Its rear-mounted electric motor boasts a continuous output of 185 hp and 960 lb-ft of torque under normal conditions. When the going gets tough, the electric motor gets tougher, with a maximum output of 260 hp and 1,850 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to its 80kW DC fast charging capability, it can be fully charged between 100 min – 160 min. The Mack MD Electric is set to go into production later this year at the company’s Roanoke Valley Operations (RVO) in Roanoke Valley, Virginia.
