Meta’s Connect conference is just days away and the company has let slip its biggest reveal yet. A leaked video, briefly posted on Meta’s YouTube channel before being pulled, shows a new pair of Ray-Ban branded smart glasses with a display and a wristband for gesture control.
The new Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses! 🤩 I’m very excited!
Meta’s upcoming HUD smart glasses will actually be Ray-Ban branded, paired with the sEMG wristband for finger-swipe control.

Ray-Ban and Meta have been partners since 2021 when they launched the Ray-Ban Stories, glasses that could take photos and videos with a voice command. Those were a good start, style meets function, but lacked the kind of advanced features that would make smart glasses a daily essential. Fast forward to 2025 and Meta is ready to change that. The leaked video, first reported by UploadVR, shows a new model called the “Meta Ray-Ban Display”. These glasses have a small screen in the right lens, a feature that’s been rumored for months under the codename Hypernova.
- CAPTURE WHAT YOU SEE — Take photos and record HD videos straight from your glasses with an ultra-wide 12 MP camera and five-mic system
- LISTEN WITH OPEN-EAR AUDIO — Hear the world around you while taking calls, listening to music or tuning in to podcasts with open-ear audio
- GET REAL-TIME ANSWERS FROM META AI — Ask questions and have conversations, like learning about landmarks or asking for restaurant suggestions as you...
What can the display do? According to the brief clip, it’s a heads up display that shows practical information. You might see a map for navigation, a translated sign in a foreign city or a chat window where you can reply to messages. The glasses lean heavily on Meta AI, you can ask questions and get answers displayed right in your field of view. It’s the kind of setup that would make you feel like you’re living in a sci-fi movie minus the bulky headset. The design sticks to the classic Ray-Ban Wayfarer look – black frames, clear lenses, timeless style. Meta’s not trying to reinvent the aesthetic; they’re banking on Ray-Ban’s iconic appeal to make these glasses something you’d actually want to wear.
A wristband, likely the “Ceres” controller mentioned in earlier leaks, steals the show. Using surface electromyography (sEMG), the wristband reads electrical signals from your hand movements to control the glasses. In the video, someone swipes their fingers to type a reply in a chat app, a gesture that looks effortless yet precise. This tech, originally developed for Meta’s Orion AR glasses prototype, lets you interact with the display without fumbling for buttons or relying solely on voice commands.
Price is where things get real, as CNBC says these Hypernova glasses will cost around $800, while Android Authority puts the range at $1,000 to $1,400. That’s a lot more than the current Ray-Ban Meta glasses, but the higher price reflects the display, AI, and gesture control.

Not to be outdone, the leaked video also showed a new pair of Oakley Sphaera glasses. These are for athletes, with a wraparound design that screams action sports—cycling or snowboarding. Unlike the Ray-Ban model, the Sphaera glasses don’t have a display but they do have a camera centered above the nosepiece, an upgrade from earlier Oakley Meta collaborations. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported earlier this year that these are for active users, with better battery life and a focus on capturing footage during high energy activities.
