Browsing modern websites like YouTube and ChatGPT on a vintage Mac Plus requires a piece of software called MacProxy Plus. Why? The OS doesn’t support modern protocols such as HTTPS or scripting languages like Javascript, PHP, or CSS.
MacProxy Plus basically adds support for ‘extensions’, which intercept requests for specific domains and serve simple HTML interfaces. This makes it possible to browse the modern websites from vintage hardware, whether it be YouTube, Reddit, WayBack Machine, or even ChatGPT.
