Here’s your first look at Morbid Metal, a fast-paced action roguelite game where you slash through enemies in a sci-fi world after everything’s gone wrong—humans are almost wiped out, and hostile machines are in charge. You control characters who use blades and can shape-shift on the spot between up to four different fighters, each with their own moves, special powers, and signature skills.
This shape-shifting mechanic lets you string together awesome attack combos to smash through tons of dangerous machines and big bosses. Change fighters during a battle to mix up your plan and make smooth, fancy combos, kind of like in games such as Devil May Cry or NieR: Automata. The places you fight in go from empty deserts to overgrown old buildings, giving you lots of different scenes to play through again and again.

As a roguelite, the story unfolds through runs across semi-procedurally generated levels. Each run lets you piece together the world’s secrets by battling enemies and bosses, with permanent character unlocks and upgrades hinting at a deeper connection to the world’s history. The focus is on action, but expect environmental storytelling and subtle lore drops rather than heavy cutscenes.
Originally crafted by one developer, Felix Schade, it’s a passion project with impressive polish, now backed by a small team. Morbid Metal is set to launch in Early Access on PC via Steam this summer (2025). There’s no official word yet on other platforms like consoles (PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch) or additional PC storefronts (e.g., Epic Games Store or GOG).
