Mass Effect Advance Wars looks great on Game Boy Advance, but what about Paper Mario? Pixel artist Ninjamal shows us what a Paper Mario demake would look like on the 32-bit handheld game console that was first released in 2001. This title combined elements from role-playing, action-adventure, and puzzle genres with players controlling a paper cutout version of Mario.
For those wondering, these screenshots were made in the program called Aseprite, which is essentially a pixel art tool on Steam that enables you to create 2D animations, sprites or any other kind of graphical elements for games. Did you know that Paper Mario originally started as a sequel to Super Mario RPG (1996)? That’s right, changes in development resulted in the game becoming a standalone title.

Thank you guys so much for the love on this series! I love Paper Mario and I’ve always wanted to make something like this. I’m still pretty new to mockups so to be receiving all of this love is super cool. I’m looking forward to doing more of these in the near future,” said Ninjamal.
