NASA 14-Year Gamma-Ray Time-Lapse Fermi Telescope
NASA used its Fermi Space Telescope data to create a 14-year time-lapse video that shows the intensity of gamma rays with energies above 200 million electron volts detected between August 2008 and August 2022.



Fermi’s Large Area Telescope (LAT) detects the Sun faintly due to the impact of accelerated particles called cosmic rays. When cosmic rays strike the Sun’s gas, gamma rays are the result. What you see in this time-lapse is the sky in two different views. The rectangular view depicts the entire sky with the center of our galaxy right smack in the middle, while the top and bottom sections of the central band show the wider universe.
