NASA astronaut Don Pettit captured two images of the Los Angeles fires from the International Space Station (ISS). One of them that you’re about to see is the view from north of San Francisco looking southward towards LA and San Diego.

Numerous fires broke out in the hills of Los Angeles County – Palisades, Eaton, Hurst, Kenneth, and possibly Brentwood – in early January 2025, fueled by a dry landscape as well as destructive winds that gusted up to 100 miles per hour. Unfortunately, the major fires have not yet reached 15% containment.
