NASA’s Ingenuity Mars helicopter appears to have removed the foreign object stuck to one of its legs, as it successfully completes the 37th powered flight. It managed to fly for 55.2-seconds and covered a distance of 203-feet, all the while drawing power from four Sony VTC-4 solar-rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.
To date, it has covered a total of 24,867 feet and flew for nearly 62 minutes during its 37 flights. NASA’s Mars sample-return mission is set to have Perseverance delivering the samples to a lander, which will then blast off on a rocket into Mars orbit. At that time, a European Space Agency spacecraft will intercept the payload and transport them back to Earth some time early next year. Ingenuity will hitch a ride on the lander in case Perseverance isn’t able to deliver the samples for any reason.
