NASA+ Netflix Release
Space exploration is about to crash-land in your living room, as NASA and Netflix are teaming up to bring NASA+’s live programming to the streaming giant’s platform starting this summer.

NASA+ kicked off in November 2023 as the agency’s free, no-ads streaming service, dishing out live mission coverage and original documentaries through its app and website. Now, by hitching a ride with Netflix, NASA’s ready to blast its audience into the stratosphere. “The 1958 Space Act basically told us to shout our space story from the rooftops,” said Rebecca Sirmons, NASA+’s general manager. “With Netflix, we’re sparking a new era of innovation and exploration, inspiring folks right from their couch or phone.”

This partnership is a slam dunk for Netflix, which has been touting its live-event muscle with everything from NFL games to comedy specials. Adding NASA’s cosmic adventures feels like the next big leap. “Whether you’re a total space geek or just love gawking at Earth from 250 miles up, the countdown’s on,” Netflix hyped in a blog post.

Get ready for live streams of rocket launches, with all the nail-biting tension of countdowns and blastoffs. Astronaut spacewalks, where you’ll see humans floating in the vast emptiness of space, will steal the show. And real-time ISS views, showing Earth’s glowing curve against the starry void, are set to be pure eye candy. This deal skips NASA+’s documentaries, zeroing in on live action only.

No one’s getting left out. NASA+ will keep streaming free and ad-free on its own app and site, so you don’t need Netflix to catch the action. But for subscribers, NASA+ content will blend right into Netflix’s interface, sitting pretty alongside your favorite shows and movies—no extra cost, no ads, just pure space vibes. An exact launch date’s still up in the air, but Netflix’s Tudum site will drop the schedule as it gets closer.
