NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory may be a new operation, but it’s definitely no slouch. This allows NASA to see “the entire disk of the Sun in extremely high spacial and temporal resolution and this allows scientists to zoom in on notable events like flares, waves, and sunspots.” Video after the break.

SDO was launched on February in a five year mission to study the sun’s magnetic field. Its image quality is ten times better that 1080p television.
