Anyone who is or currently in the military should know lots about urban warfare, or combat conducted in urban areas such as towns and cities, which is very different from combat in the open at both the operational and tactical level. SCI was acquired by the US Navy in 1934 and they also use the island as an auxiliary naval airfield. Pilots that use this airfield find it to be one of the most demanding airbases in the US, known for its high winds and dangerous terrain surrounding the runway. The airfield is home to the United States Navy SEALs training facilities located north of the runways.
While the is officially uninhabited, it’s estimated that the number of military and civilian personnel present on the island at any given time is at least 300. One a side note, the city of San Clemente in Orange County, California is named after the island.
