New Jersey Field Station Animatronic Dinosaurs For Sale
Field Station: Dinosaurs, the weird New Jersey attraction in Overpeck County Park, Leonia, is closing its doors for good on November 9, 2025 after 14 years. This is a once in a lifetime chance for dinosaur enthusiasts, collectors or anyone with a big backyard to buy a life-sized animatronic T-Rex, Spinosaurus or Velociraptor off Facebook Marketplace.

Guy Gsell, the park’s executive producer, has been getting calls nonstop since the dinosaurs went on the market. He’s heard from institutions looking to add to their exhibits and rich guys who want a Jurassic display in their backyard. A 39-foot T-Rex, described as “slightly used, well loved” is $2,700. A 75-foot Apatosaurus, the most expensive of the bunch, is $2,860. If you’re on a budget a 6-foot-5 feathered Velociraptor can be yours for $700. Each dinosaur comes with a caveat: buyers handle deinstallation and shipping but the park will have equipment ready when pickup begins after November 9.

This isn’t a fire sale, it’s a sad goodbye to a park that’s welcomed over a million people since it opened in Secaucus in 2012. Field Station had to leave in 2015 to make way for a high school but returned to Leonia in 2016 and settled on a 7 acre corner of Overpeck Park. Despite a 5 year contract agreed in 2021 financial constraints and an expiring lease have forced Gsell to close the park. He’s not done though; plans are in the works to keep the Field Station spirit alive through live performances, educational activities and internet recordings.

There are over 30 animatronics for sale, some with limited movement and voice boxes. A 52-foot Spinosaurus is $2,800, a Hadrosaurus with eggs and a nest is $2,450, a blue Parasaurolophus is $2,410 and a rubber juvenile Triceratops 16 feet tall and kid friendly is $1,668. Gsell would like to sell the entire collection and will give preference to bidders who can take all 30+ dinosaurs but is open to individual bids. Signs around the park advertise the sale with one next to the T-Rex jokingly saying it’s “well loved”.

Before the park closes it will go out with a bang. On September 27 and 28 a Jurassic Petting Zoo will feature up close interactions with Triceratops, Dilophosaurus and Stegosaurus. Dogs are welcome to participate in the “Dogs & Dinos” event on October 13 as long as they are on non-retractable leashes. From October 3 to 25 “Dinosaurs After Dark” will feature lantern-lit tours, a “Dinosaur Séance” with puppets by Palmieri Puppets and a campfire sing-along with the Dinosaur Troubadour. These closing events are designed to fill the park with families, fossil enthusiasts and anyone looking for one more dinosaur adventure.
