The flagship Nintendo NY store in Manhattan’s Rockefeller Center removed the Game Boy that survived the Gulf War for reasons yet to be confirmed. An employee allegedly told a guest that it was returned to Nintendo America headquarters in Redmond, Washington for safekeeping, but that has yet to be confirmed.
This Operation Desert Storm-used Game Boy originally belonged to Stephan Scoggins, a Nintendo Power reader back in the 1990s. He sent a letter to them asking if it could be replaced after being damaged by a tent fire. Before exchanging it, he realized that the Game Boy still worked after inserting a Tetris cartridge. Fortunately, you’re still able to get your hands on quirky Game Boy gear like the Nintendo DemoVision kiosk.

Game Boy is even tougher than we thought it was! Of course, we don’t recommend that you subject your Game Boy to trial by fire, but in this case, we replaced Stephan’s Game Boy as a special “Desert Storm” courtesy,” said a Nintendo Power Editor in the July 1991 issue.
