Nintendo revealed a Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Remake for the Switch today that is set for release next year. This game was originally released on the Nintendo GameCube in 2004 and it returns with updated graphics. Put simply, it’s a role-playing video game (RPG) with other nontraditional RPG elements such as a two-dimensional version of Mario you control to explore a variety of worlds designed to look like paper.
When exploring these worlds, Mario is tasked with retrieving seven Crystal Stars by completing puzzles and defeating enemies. In the overworld, players can find a variety of items that can be used in and outside of combat, including healing Mario or his partner to damaging the opponent. Mario can also purchase “badges” from non-player characters (NPCs), uncover them hidden in the environment, or obtain them from defeated enemies on occasion.
