Kaze Fan Super Mario 64 Level Beautiful N64 Hardware
Modder Kaze Emanuar has created what many on social media are calling the most beautiful Super Mario 64 level yet and it even works on actual N64 hardware, not just emulators. This level is a part of his ‘Return to Yoshi’s Island’ mod, which is basically an entire game, complete with custom lighting effects, music and baked vertex colors.

Fake point lighting needed to be implemented since the original game supports up to 8 directional lights, which means you can change the brightness and colors, making Super Mario 64 look much more modern. Other optimizations include multitextures with vertex colors for more depth, boosting framerate, and the ability to run at 30fps on actual N64 hardware. Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on when we can expect a public release.
