NVIDIA Cyberpunk 2077 Overdrive Mode Ray Tracing
Set to launch April 11th, NVIDIA’s Cyberpunk 2077 Overdrive Mode takes ray tracing technology to the next level and it’s NVIDIA RTX Direct Illumination (RTXDI), a free SDK that enables developers to closely replicate the appearance of light in scenes with numerous light sources. This means that thousands of objects can emit ray-traced light, including each neon sign, street lamp, LED billboard, car headlight, and other sources of light.

Cyberpunk 2077 Overdrive Mode takes full advantage of full ray tracing and RTXDI, which means nearly all light sources cast physically correct soft shadows, something that was previously unimaginable using other methods. Since the game has a full day-night cycle, indirect lighting from all emissive sources had to be upgraded as well, including the sun and moon. This required Global Illumination (GI) to be path traced to allow natural colored lighting to bounce multiple times throughout Cyberpunk 2077’s world, producing more realistic indirect lighting and occlusion. Aside from the game, the only other requirement is a GeForce RTX 40 Series GPU and NVIDIA DLSS 3.
