The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Official
Bethesda dropped the official trailer for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered during their reveal event earlier this morning, and it also happened to be a shadow drop, meaning the game launched immediately after the showcase.

This remaster, developed by Virtuos in collaboration with Bethesda, isn’t just a visual touchup, but rather a significant overhaul of the 2006 classic The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Fans are probably familiar with the game’s landmark open-world RPG set in the province of Cyrodiil within the Elder Scrolls universe.

Some would even go as far as calling it a remake, as everything has been rebuilt using Unreal Engine 5, replacing the original Creation Engine. This brings stunning new visuals, including updated textures, lighting, and landscape details. It runs at 4K resolution and 60 FPS for smooth performance on modern hardware.

Character models, environments, and animations have been completely revamped. Say goodbye to the original’s famously chunky character faces (though some fans love that retro charm). Comparison images show dramatic improvements, like the view of Vilverin from the Imperial City Prison Sewer or the bridge to Castle Skingrad.

Combat has also been modernized with new mechanics, including a dodge button, sprinting, and Souls-like blocking. Archery and stealth systems have been refined, with highlighted sneak icons and updated hit reactions for a more responsive feel. The original’s controversial enemy scaling and leveling systems have been adjusted to feel more balanced and in line with modern RPGs, blending elements of Oblivion’s and Skyrim’s approaches.
