Pinwheel Smartphone for Kids and Teens
Dane Witbeck from Austin, Texas created Pinwheel, a smartphone designed for kids and teens, because he was frustrated at how the parental controls on current devices are ‘fundamentally broken’. He wanted this smartphone to help children be productive and meet their goals without being inhibited by some of the digital addiction that really affects them today.

It’s available in Pixel ($599), Plus ($329), Slim ($199), and Rugged ($249) models, all of which come with the Pinwheel operating system already installed. Since these smartphones work with most carriers, they can be added to an existing plan. Lastly, parents will be asked to setup a Caregiver Portal, which lets them create a contact safelist, monitor texts / calls, install apps and manage screen time.
