Israel Iron Beam Laser Weapon Israel
Rafael’s Iron Beam laser weapon has been successfully tested with live targets, including UAVs, mortars, rockets, and anti-tank missiles in various scenarios. Unlike the Iron Dome, which requires costly $100,000 USD missiles to take down projectiles, the Iron Beam uses a high-powered optical fiber laser that locks onto targets up to 4.3-miles away and destroys them within 5-seconds.

These tests are just the first phase of a multi-year program led by the DDR&D and defense industries. It aims to develop a high-power ground and aerial laser system equipped to deal with long-range, high-intensity threats, complementing the Iron Dome system, adding to Israel’s multi-tiered air defense array. The goal is to eventually place multiple laser transmitters along Israel’s borders throughout the next decade. This laser may sound powerful, but it’s still a far cry from this fusion record.

Israel Iron Beam Laser Weapon Israel

The completion of these innovative tests using a high-power laser is just the beginning of our vision. This is the first time we’ve succeeded in intercepting mortars, rockets, and UAVs from such challenging ranges and time intervals,” said Brig. Gen. Yaniv Rotem, Head of R&D at the DDR&D in the Ministry of Defense.
