The upcoming Sabrent Rocket XTRM5 is the world’s first Thunderbolt 5 portable SSD, boasting bi-directional bandwidth of 80 gigabits per second (Gbps) and 120Gbps with Bandwidth Boost. As for performance, this drive offers read speeds of higher than 6,000 MB/s and write speeds of over 5,000 MB/s.
You won’t need a Thunderbolt 5 compatible device to use the Sabrent Rocket XTRM5 however, as it can still achieve 3,000 MB/s read and write speeds on the latest Apple MacBooks. There’s no word yet on pricing or availability, but we believe that more information will be released as compatibility improves. The Razer Blade 18 (2024) is currently the only laptop with a Thunderbolt 5 port.
