It’s no Ameca, but the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra could get Metalenz’s Polar ID tech, which rivals Apple’s Face ID, when it’s released next year. Instead of relying purely on visual data, Polar ID analyzes the way light interacts with a user’s face, creating a “light signature” that serves as the key for unlocking the device.
Since Polar ID creates a light signature, it has the ability to recognize and authenticate a person even if they’re wearing a mask or sunglasses. Plus, it’s able to detect if someone is trying to spoof their face with a picture or 3D mask. Apple’s Face ID basically utilizes an array of sensors, including a dot projector, an infrared camera, and a flood illuminator, to emit thousands of IR dots onto the user’s face.
