The Seagate EXOS 30TB hard drive is now the world’s largest capacity, thanks to the company’s Mozaic 3+ platform, which implements Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) technology. This marks the launch of areal densities of 3TB+ per platter, and eventually, a roadmap that will achieve 4TB+ and 5TB+ per platter in the coming years.
Seagate’s areal density innovation absically increases the number of bits that can be stored on a platter, thus addressing common industry pain points. Mozaic 3+ lets customers store more data in the same floor space than ever before. It uses nearly the same material components as PMR hard drives while dramatically increasing capacity, allowing data centers to significantly lower operational costs. Official pricing has not yet been revealed, but the 30TB drive should cost around $450 USD.
- FEEL THE FORCE Features three officially licensed and iconic lightsaber designs—Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, and Luke Skywalker.
- INTERCHANGEABLE DESIGN A one-of-kind design lets you swap out which faceplate fits your collection at any moment.
- A POWERFUL GLOW Customizable RGB LED lighting brings a galaxy of atmosphere to your drive.
Seagate is the world’s only hard drive manufacturer with the areal density capability to get to 3TB per platter and with 5TB on the horizon. As AI use cases put a premium on raw data sets, more companies are going to need to store all the data they can. To accommodate the resulting masses of data, areal density matters more than ever,” said Dave Mosley, Seagate’s CEO.
