Sealed First-Generation Apple iPod For Sale Auction Rally
Ever since the Apple iPod was discontinued, collectors have been clamoring to get their hands on sealed examples. One such example of a first-generation Apple iPod just sold for a whopping $29,000 USD on the Rally app. This 5GB white-silver iPod was originally purchased back in December 2001 by Fred and Betty Goodwin for their son Joseph at an Apple Store for $399.

It just so happened that Joseph never even opened the iPod, possibly due to lack of interest or is a collector himself. The device was placed on a closet shelf untouched with its receipt and a black neoprene sleeve in a blue Apple Store bag for nearly two decades. Rally, a platform for buying and selling equity shares in collectible assets, acquired the iPod from Joseph for $23,000 in 2021 and then put it on display at a New York museum. A total of 5,000 shares were then offered to investors, valuing it at $25,000, before a buyout offer was made this week for $29,000. More information here.
