Legendary video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto provides us with a first look at the new Donkey Kong Country Land in Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan. Slated to open on December 11, 2024, guests will not only be able to enjoy several new attractions, but also themed food offerings as well, including the DK Wild Hot Dog.
There’s also Donkey Kong’s Treehouse, which comes complete with a mountain of bananas at its base, while Funky’s Fly ‘n’ Buy is loaded with exclusive merchandise you can only find in this land. However, the main draw would be Mine-Cart Madness, a roller coaster-like attraction that winds through The Golden Temple.

I love that Miyamoto brought up the fact Donkey Kong came out 40 years ago and the irony of it all. Universal Studios sued Nintendo over Donkey Kong stating that it was too similar to King Kong. Jack Kirby, Nintendo’s lawyer, proved however that King Kong was public domain. Just imagine going back in time during all that and tell Nintendo that in 40 years they and Universal will make a an attraction based on Donkey Kong,” said one commenter.
