Euro Airship’s Solar Airship One aims to offer a hydrogen and electric-powered, non-stop around the world tour in 20-30 days without any fossil fuels by 2026. Unlike traditional airships, this one features a double enveloped design that maintains a cushion of air all around for consistent pressure, encased by solar panels.
Inside the aluminum structure are 15 helium envelopes, each independently managed via software, that take into account different variables like weather. The airship reportedly will have a 621-mile range, but the solar panels should draw in energy during the day and recharge the hydrogen fuel cells to power the motors at night. Construction is set to begin in 2024, with final assembly happening a year later.

The SolarAirship project demonstrates that it is possible to catalyze an ecosystem to foster the emergence of sustainable air transport solutions. After being an engineering partner at the heart of the development of Solar Impulse, we are delighted with this partnership emblematic of the work that our engineering teams are carrying out to accelerate the efficient integration of sustainable technologies.โ said Corinne Jouanny, Head of Portfolio and Industry Centers of Excellence, Capgemini Engineering.
