This Steam Box Xi3 mini PC prototype from 2013 has a DisplayPport that is also compatible with HDMI. Bringus Studios goes hands-on and gives us an up-close look at its nifty Valve Steam Box prototype auto-detect function that can tell what kind of cable is plugged into the port.
What you see here might be DisplayPort Dual-Mode (DP++), which can also detect when a DVI or HDMI adapter is connected and then transmit DVI/HDMI TMDS signals instead of standard DP signals. Since DP and HDMI/DVI use different signals, an adapter would typically be required. Unfortunately (or fortunately), the Steam Box from Xi3 never made it to production, but Valve’s own version can still be found on the secondary market.
