What happens when you swap a Subaru WRX engine into a 1961 Mini Mark I? You create a street legal go-kart of course, and that is exactly what Steve from Australia did. The only original parts left from the Mini are its body and wiper motor, as everything else had to be replaced to ensure the WRX boxer engine could run smoothly.
There are no additional mods on the engine, aside from an upgraded top-mounted intercooler, but the turbocharged 2.5L 4-cylinder engine making 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque is plenty for a vehicle that weighs just over 2,000 pounds. Those familiar with the Mini Mark I know that it did not come standard with a sunroof, and the one you see on Steve’s vehicle was actually salvaged from a 2007-2013 MINI cooper.
