Super Mario Bros. CD
FamicomCD has just released a playable demo of Super Mario Bros. CD that can be used on actual hardware or emulators. It’s basically a ROM hack of Super Mario World and shows what the game could have looked like on a CD-based NES add-on.

This isn’t just a simple skin, but rather a fan game that makes use of the MSU-1 chip to deliver rich CD-quality music, fully animated cut scenes, and more complex environments, even on original hardware via the SD2SNES/FXPak Pro. There are over 40 interconnected levels helping to form a cohesive story, along with new power-ups that will assist you in your journey. Want to play? Download it here now.

Mode 0 allows for 4 layers at once rather than the usual 2-3 layers found in SMW by using Mode 1, but it will cause all layers to be 2BPP or 4 colors per tile (this does not include sprite layers and they retain usage of 16 colors),” said the developer(s).
