A fan remake was teased nearly a year ago, and today, an official Super Mario RPG remake was revealed during Nintendo Direct. Specific details have not yet been announced, although the graphics look to be completely overhauled including all of the most memorable characters like Mario, Princess Peach, Birdo, Booster, Mallow as well as Geno.
Just like the original, it appears to retain the adventuring and turn-based battle sequences. Fans already know that much of Super Mario RPG’s gameplay is outside monster battles and plays similar to an isometric 3D platformer. This means you’ll see plenty of traditional Mario elements like punching floating question blocks from below, but there are no random encounters, which means enemies are visible in the field and a battle ensues only if Mario comes in contact with one. It’s set to be released on November 17th, 2023, with pricing yet to be announced.
