Kratos’ Thanatos is designed for long range missions, while Teledyne DLIR’s Black Hornet 4 nano drone tackles more stealthy operations. Weighing just 70 grams, it can fly for more than 30-minutes on a full charge and in up to 25-knot (28.7 mph) winds.
It comes equipped with an all-new 12MP daytime camera with excellent low-light performance, as well as a new high-resolution thermal imager for crisp video and still images to the operator. Flight performance has also been improved, thanks to new obstacle avoidance capabilities and an advanced battery. Operators can launch Black Hornet 4 in less than 20 seconds, making it suited for missions in GPS-denied environments to rapidly identify targets beyond visual line-of-sight and assess weapon effects in real-time.

Black Hornet 4 takes the features and capabilities that made Black Hornet 3 world renowned to the next level. Weโve worked closely with customers and end users to make this system even more valuable for dismounted soldiers in need of situational understanding or engaged in covert operations, where precise and immediate intel is crucial,” said Dr. JihFen Lei, executive vice president and general manager of Teledyne FLIR Defense.
