The Tesla Cybercab made its public debut at the company’s ‘We, Robot’ event tonight at Warner Bros. Studio in Burbank, California. Just about everyone knew that Elon Musk was going to unveil a robotaxi of some sort, but not many expected it to cost under $30,000 USD and have not steering wheel or pedals.
It’s set to go into production before 2027, after unsupervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) goes live on Model 3 / Y vehicles next year in California and Texas. This means that both the Model 3 and Model Y with unsupervised FSD will be able to function as robotaxis until the Cybercab is released. Once the latter hits the streets, we imagine ride sharing operators buying a fleet of Cybercabs and starting their own robotaxi division.
