Teufel MYND Open-Source Bluetooth Speaker
Berlin’s Teufel has been crafting audio gear for 45 years, and their latest creation, the MYND, feels like a quiet revolution. This Bluetooth speaker is built to last, repaired, and made your own. It’s a device that invites you to pop it open, swap out parts, and even 3D-print new components.

The MYND’s all about being green. Most Bluetooth speakers get chucked when the battery dies, but not this one. Its 38.48 Wh battery, good for up to 16 hours of music (39 hours at medium volume, 42 in eco-mode) can be swapped out with just a few screws – no special tools required. Teufel have a tutorial to show you how. The shell is 50% recycled plastic, opens with minimal glue and every part from the battery to the Bluetooth module is from common suppliers so replacements are easy to find.

Teufel is sharing everything – schematics, PCB layouts, firmware, even 3D printable files for the housing. Want to build your own MYND? Fire up a 3D printer, grab off the shelf parts and follow their plans. You can mess with the firmware for custom sound or print a new grille to change the style. The Bluetooth 5.3 module is on its own card so you can upgrade it later without having to ditch the whole speaker.

Sound wise it’s no slouch even with all the focus on being modular. The MYND has a 2.1 setup with two 20mm tweeters, a 3.5 inch subwoofer and two 50x100mm passive radiators and Teufel call it their “classic bass”. Reviews rave about the wide soundstage – rock, pop, jazz, even podcasts sound sharp and lively. At high volumes the bass might lose some punch and the plastic grille, designed for easy fixes, isn’t as crisp as metal but it still fills a room. The Teufel Go app lets you adjust the sound with an equalizer, eco-mode or link up to 100 MYNDs or other Teufel speakers for a party.

This thing is built to take a beating. With an IP67 rating it can laugh off dust and a quick dip in water – perfect for poolside jams or rainy hikes. The boxy design in Warm Black, Warm White, Light Mint or Wild Berry isn’t super sleek but feels like it’ll outlast anything. A strap hooks into all four corners and loops on the back let you clip it to a backpack or bike. At 250 euros (about $270) it’s not cheap but you’re paying for eco-friendly materials and a build that’s made to last. Only bummer? It’s Europe only for now though Teufel’s Fender stuff might mean a US drop eventually.

It’s super versatile too. Beyond Bluetooth 5.3 with multipoint and Google Fast Pair you’ve got a 3.5mm jack for wired tunes and a USB-C port that doubles as a power bank for your phone or even a USB soundcard for your laptop. The five buttons – power, Bluetooth, play/pause, volume – are solid but unlit so you might fumble in the dark. The 5200mAh battery supports 60W fast charging but no charger or cable is included (those are 20 and 15 euros extra).
