The Q Hubless Bicycle
Most of us have seen a TRON Lightcycle, and at least one company (Parker Brothers Concepts) has actually built one, but engineer Q decided to create a hubless bicycle that you can still ride. The task wasn’t easy to say the least, as custom fabricated ring shaped hubs replaced the standard rims, while ball bearings around the circumference for the rims help them roll around. Next, the forks had to be shortened and then welded to a set of brackets bolted onto the new hubs. Since there is no place to attach the sprocket cassette, the bike’s rear hub, cassette and disc brake had to be moved inside of the frame to drive the rear wheel using a second chain attached to a large ring sprocket mounted directly on the rim. Yes, this means that there are no front brakes. It may not be practical, but this hubless bicycle will definitely turn more heads than any standard one.
