Open Bionics 3D-Printed Hand

Let’s face it, bionic hands are quite expensive to say the least, with some of the higher-end prosthesis costing up to $120,000. Open Bionics aims to change that, with a 3d-printed bionic hand that offers the same functionality priced at under $1,200. How does it work? Well, after 3D scanning the wearer’s residual limb, a prosthetic design is made with modeling software, and then both the hand as well as its socket, are 3D printed. All the mechanical components of the hand can be 3D printed, thus making it a cost-effective alternative to the traditional, expensive prosthetic.
