Ritika Kedia’s creative Toaster Typewriter isn’t just a fancy sculpture, but rather a functional machine that lets you burn letters into bread. She created this to show what technology with a sense of humor can look like.

It’s not the most technologically advanced typewriter, but it does have a few quirks, including the ability to adjust the height of the bread when typing and castor wheels to help move things across. Toaster Typewriter was a part of a 15-week long expedition that followed four routes of research: ethnographic, experimental, somatic, and research through making.

This 15 week long investigation attempts to understand humor’s role in design and creates futures where humor is embedded in our everyday objects and technologies,” said Ritika.
